What is it?

 

aspire: put yourself to work is a business start-up and development program funded through Service Canada by the Government of Canada.  Offered 3 times a year, this self-employment program provides intensive, comprehensive and interactive business skills instruction and support in starting and running your own business.  Topics covered include:

  • Business Concept Development
  • the Business Plan
  • Market Research
  • Sales & Marketing
  • Accounting
  • Financial & Legal Basics
  • Networking and Problem Solving 

 

Service Canada approved applicants qualify for up to 48 weeks of Self-Employment Benefits with no ‘claw back’.  That is to say, that unlike general EI benefits, income earned while in this program is considered an investment in your business and not deducted from the EI payments.

 

 

Who is eligible?

 

This year long program is open to you if you are legally entitled to work in Canada and have:

 

either an active EI claim or received EI in the last 36 months or maternity/paternity benefits in the 60 months prior to the program start date

  a referral by a Sunshine Coast Employment Centre Employment Coach

  a sound business concept for a business you are not now operating

 proof of majority ownership of the business (at least 51%)

 an amount equal to 25% of the benefits you will receive while in the program to

 

 

How do I apply?

 

Step 1  Obtain a referral from a SCES Employment Coach (604-885-7443)

 

Step 2  Attend  an Orientation Session for a program overview and application  Info

 

Step 3  Explore your suitability for self-employment and the viability of your business concept through a two day workshop

 

Step 4  Apply by completing both the aspire and Service Canada application packages and submitting them by the deadline for review

 

Step 5  Present your concept and yourself to a panel of aspire business advisors for approval


 

aspire Self-Employment Program Schedule Overview:

 

2007 Orientation Workshop Dates - 3 hour workshops to learn about the program
Orientation workshops start at 9:30 AM and finish at 12:30 PM
